I just, like, have a thing about Ls. I don't know what it is. Seeing it spelled "Lilian" makes my eye twitch. I would say I'm just anal about proper spelling, but that's not right, because I prefer the way "Lily" looks to "Lilly" even though the latter is correct (as a name anyway).
Some people like "Lilian" because when they see 2 Ls it makes them think of the Y sound, like in Spanish. "Lillian" seems an impossibly odd looking word to them.
